1. Identify the article you have selected and why you chose it
I read the article The Future of Music Credo, by John Cage. This article was interesting to me because it was written so long ago. I was really surprised to see a lot of the things he predicted, such as electric machines that create sound, came true. That’s an amazing production since the article was written in 1937.
2. What are the main points of the essay?
The main point of this article is that the advancements of sound in the future will be limitless. He be leaves that in the future ( now present) we will be able to create any sound with technology. There will be machines that can create sounds not even found in the real world today. Today we already have most of this equipment making, this article way ahead of the curve. Machines like synthesizers can bend and shape sound to make almost any sound or pitch possible.
3. How are the ideas or arguments in this article relevant to your own practice as a media artist?
It relates to me because I use a lot of this technology today. Everyday I listen to sounds and music recorded by the very machines he predicts of in this article. I have also dabbled in some synthesizing programs for the keyboard and the guitar.
