1. Describe two situations that aggravated, bothered, shocked or otherwise stressed you duringdrift one. (Please note that the situation CANNOT be technology-related.)
The first situation that aggravated me the most was trying to get all the wind out without compromising the clarity of my sound. I think it would have been easier in a less windy city. The second thing that really bothered me was the sound of cars in all of my sounds. People were always diving by and finding a break was near impossible.
2. Describe, with details, two situations during drift 1 in which you felt unusually peaceful, at ease, or contemplative.
It was pretty peaceful just sitting back and listening to the sounds of cars going by or just the general noise of the city. I also went out to try and record the sound of chirping crickets, and it was pretty tranquil. Unfortunately that sound didn’t make it to my Drift. I probably would have been more peaceful and contemplative if I didn’t have to worry about the tiny imperfections of what I was doing. Maybe if I do a drift just for fun it would be more peaceful
3. Describe three surprises or unexpected situations you encountered on your Drift and in the days that followed. The surprise could stem from your expectations that conflicted with "on the ground" realities, cultural or social issues of which you were previously unaware, feelings and reactions that you did not expect to have, appearances and soundings of things you did not expect, good or bad outcomes of "on the spot" decisions you had to make, or the discovery of "deeper" realities in the materials you brought home. (Again, skip anything technology-related!)
One of the things I found surprising was the fact that one of my best sounds was the sound the lawn mower. When I first recorded It, I thought it sounded horrible. I was also surprised by how many weird sounds are in the city at every second that really, only the microphones picked up. And finally, I was surprised by how hard sound collecting is. It seemed like a pretty easy task, but getting your sound to sound perfect is really hard.
4. Describe your favorite experience, situation, place, or recollection from your Drift. Be specific about what happened, how you felt, how you reacted, and why you think this particular experience affected you so much.
I think the experience that stands out to me the most in drift 1 was when I hit the record button for the first time and heard the sound through my microphone. Everything was so much louder and I could hear everything so crisply. I also thought it was really cool how if u put one microphone in a different spot than the other it made the sound seem so much different than when they were right next to each other. It probably stood out to me so much because I had never recorded sound before (except with crappy kiddy toys).
